How was duct tape invented?
Duct tape was developed during World War II to meet the need for a repair tape that was durable, waterproof and strong. After the war, the nameless, military green tape came to the United States and was used to hold together duct work. It was called, appropriately enough, "duct tape" and soon became the silver color weīre familiar with.
Things changed during the 1970s, when the partners at Manco, Inc. placed rolls of duct tape in shrink wrap, making it easier for retailers to stack the sticky rolls. Different grades and colors of duct tape werenīt far behind. Soon, duct tape became the most versatile tool in the household.

How and when was Trust E. Duck born?
In 1984, Manco founder Jack Kahl noticed that many consumers were calling and writing Manco with innovative uses for duct tape. While many of those uses were practical, even more were creative, wild and zany.
Jack was determined to give duct tape users a champion product that embodied the helpfulness and upbeat spirit that duct tape inspired. Noticing that many customers referred to duct tape as "duck" tape, Jack used this common mispelling as a source of inspiration and renamed the tape "Duck Tape." The Manco Duck was hatched. Since then, Duck Tape has become Mancoīs flagship product. Itīs the #1 brand of duct tape in North America, and is rapidly achieving the same success internationally.
After the Company's name changed to Henkel Consumer Adhesives, our loveable company mascot was renamed Trust E. Duck where the "E" stands for extraordinary value.
Today, the Duck can be found on all of Henkel Consumer Adhesives's Duck Brand products. Trust E. Duck is fun, friendly, helpful, resourceful and imaginative, a checklist every new Duck Brand product must meet before itīs brought to market.
